When you're looking for cash

You may be able to find the cash you need in a couple of ways by refinancing your auto loan.

  • Lower rates. Free up money for other expenses with lower payments each month.
  • Access cash. Refinance your vehicle and receive cash to use as you need.
  • Flexible terms. Pay off your auto loan sooner, freeing up the amount of your monthly car payment.

Changes in credit scoring

In 2008, FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation) made changes to its credit risk formula to better distinguish people who occasionally get behind in their loan payments from individuals who are chronic late payers.

"It's a critical distinction at this point in history, when so many creditworthy individuals are struggling," states FICO spokesperson Craig Watts.†

If you're refinancing your vehicle or looking to finance a different one, you may want to check your own credit score before applying to get an idea of the rates you could qualify for.
